Australis is back, with some big changes!
On the 3rd of January, 2023, Australis returned to the greater micronational community - With some changes. The Grand Duchy is no more - The nation is now known as the Second Commonwealth of Australis, and its leader, Daniel Hamilton, is now the President of Australis. In this article, we see how some of these changes have been made, and why Hamilton has decided to implement these changes.
On the 8th of April, 2020, Australis was founded as the Commonwealth of Australis, with the goal of creating a model society for how societies should be, embodying fairness, justice, and equality as the main principles guiding its development. Over time, however, this mission became shrouded by the growing globalisation of the nation, being exposed to the online micronational community, until the nation became a monarchy with an absolute ruler.
In the year that the nation has been missing from the community, newly styled President Hamilton has decided to bring about a number of changes to return Australis to how it was originally intended to be.
Growing inactivity became a major struggle for Australis in mid-to-late 2021, and as such the citizenship has been wiped from Australis - With a renewal system to be implemented, in which active citizens renew their citizenship on a regular basis, leading inactive citizens to be stripped of their citizenship.
The local focus has also led to a number of territorial changes, with just three territories, all within Western Australia, being kept, and all foreign territories being returned to their original macronational jurisdiction.
It is also known that Australis intends to rejoin the Cupertino Alliance, which has also struggled with inactivity in recent times, to hopefully spread this resurgence to the organisation. Member states within the organisation have praised the hopeful return of Australis, lauding it as a turning point for the declining body.
It remains to be seen whether these changes will have a positive impact on the nation.
